It's A Party-ful Life!

If you've been on Pinterest looking at party ideas, chances are you have seen these cool fabric strips garland hanging above the party table.  

 

This one that I am making is for an upcoming 80's themed party I am designing.  I will post the photos from this party at the end of November.  "Like" us on Facebook to alert you for upcoming additions to our site and blog.

 

You may have wondered if you can make them yourself.  Well, I am here to tell you, even if you don't consider yourself to be the "craftiest", you CAN make this fabric garland and it WON'T break the bank, either!

 

You will need:

• 5 or 6 different fabrics (1/4 yard of each) that go well together and match whichever party or room you intend to decorate with the garland.

• 3 yards of medium strong string or twine.  I used a small roping similar to shoelaces.

• A good pair of scissors that cuts fabric easily.

 

First, you will want to cut the strips of fabric.  You can cut them any length that once folded will work for you ( 1" x 24" strips).

It looks the best, when you cut maybe an inch up and tear the fabric up to 24".  It will fray.  Just cut off the extra threads. 

You will need at least 10-12 strips per foot of twine or roping.

 

Once your strips are cut, you can attach them to the roping/twine.

To do this, you will first fold one strip in half. Place the folded top face down on the twine/rope with about 1" above the rope, leaving enough roping for hanging later (maybe a foot or so).  Next, fold the bottom loose strips through the top  1" loop above the rope.  Then pull to tighten.  See photos.  As you add the strips, consider how you want to pattern them on the rope. As you loop strips on, follow your desired pattern. You can slide them over tight next to each other, or leave a little space. That's up to you and what look you are going for.

Continue this until your garland is complete. It's that easy.

1. that you can customize it yourself with whatever fabrics you like.

3. It is very inexpensive to make. You may even find what you need in remnents at your local fabric store.  This project cost me under $7.00 to make, using the in-store discounts and 40% coupon.

4. It is a beautiful and unique decoration that adds so much to your party design.

5. It can not only be used for a party, but also as decor in a bedroom, nursery, or for your mantel.

6. You can make these for each holiday and even switch the fabric out if you want to.
