Mardi Gras

Host a Mardi Gras Masquerade Party!

  • Use masks as invitations, just write in the information on the back side, and mail in an envelope~

  • You can also make your own masks with golden yellow, deep purple, and deep green posterboard or construction paper.

Be sure to use a white gel pen on the darker paper.  You may also embellish with gold glitter to really make them stand out.

More Mardi Gras decorating ideas:

  • Decorate in Purple (for justice), Green (for faith), and Gold (for power) in balloons, streamers, beads, feathers and masks.

  • Create a Mardi Gras centerpiece:  Using gold lame fabric, wrap a medium sized styrofoam square (just like wrapping a present) Bring all of the fabric to the top, secure with straight pins. Next, poke in bright and feather-y masks on sticks (so this right in the center of the top).  Hide the pins by draping and adhering (with hot glue gun) colorful beads.  You could also use premade Mardi Gras centerpieces.

  • Use gold plates and napkins.  Wrap plasticware in gold napkins , securing them with a pretty wired ribbon.

  • Scatter beads and doubleoons (plastic coins) all over tabletops.

  • Play jazz and cajun style music, or a compilation of Mardi Gras Tunes.

A Mardi Gras tradition... King Cake. New Orleans bakers produce thousands of King cakes, decorated in the Mardi Gras colors: purple, green and gold. Hidden in each oblong of braided coffee-cake dough is a plastic baby; custom dictates that whoever finds it must give the next King cake party. And one Mardi Gras organization even uses a King cake tradition to choose the queen of its annual ball.Visit Rao's Bakery for more information and to order a King Cake to be shipped directly to you.
